  • Norfolk-based carrier Bush to get new commander

    NORFOLK Capt. Andrew J. Loiselle will take over as commanding officer for the aircraft carrier George H.W. Bush on Thursday. Loiselle previously served as commanding officer of the dock landing ship Gunston Hall. A native of Rhode Island, he graduated from Assumption College in 1988 with a degree in mathematics, according to a Navy news release.

  • University grieves loss of accomplished graduate student

    The university grieves the loss of graduate student Michael Montoya. Montoya died June 7 in Winston-Salem, N.C. of an enlarged heart. He was enrolled in the Master of Arts program in Mathematics at the university. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from the university in 2011. Montoya graduated Magna Cum Laude and won the John Y. Phillips prize in mathematics.
